It’s TUBACHRISTMAS season once again! Last year we had a very successful TUBACHRISTMAS performance, with almost 400 participants (one of the largest in the world). Please encourage your tuba and euphonium colleagues and students (advanced junior high students should have no problem) to participate in our mass low brass ensemble. Our schedule is as follows for Sunday, December 11th, 2011:
The following should answer any questions about our rehearsal and concert:
- Our guest performer for this year will be very special. We are featuring the RGV Tuba/Euphonium Quartet. This is a group of music majors from UTPA. During the past year, members of the ensemble have performed and participated in conferences and festivals around the country. Recently, they were chosen to perform at the International Tuba/Euphonium Conference in Linz, Austria in June 2012. It will be great for our students to hear the talents of former members of the Rio Grande Valley TUBACHRISTMAS Ensemble that have developed into world class musicians.
- Dr. Scott Roeder will also be serving as the Co-coordinator for the event.
- We will also have Mr. Steve Shoop serve as a guest conductor. Mr. Shoop has served as the TUBACHRISTMAS Coordinator in Dallas/Ft. Worth for several years. He has also presented tuba clinics at TMEA and TBA.
- Please accompany your students throughout the day – your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
- Please stress to your students the importance of proper behavior during the rehearsal and performance.
- Please BRING STANDS for your students to use.
- Please leave all cases in the bus or car.
- Dress comfortably…preferably in “nice” school clothes.
- Feel free to decorate your Tuba, Sousaphone, or Euphonium for the Christmas Season. Remember that we do give awards for the top Christmas Decorations.
- Cost is $5.00 per participant, which covers registration and an official TUBACHRISTMAS pin.
- Please help advertise for the Concert. Tell the students to tell family and friends to attend the Concert.
- All participants will need “Carols for a Merry TUBACHRISTMAS, vol. II,” which may be purchased for $18, if you do not already have the music. We also have a “new” larger print book (8 1/2” X 11”) available for $23.
- Other TUBACHRISTMAS items that you can purchase include:TUBACHRISTMAS hats and scarves – $15 TUBACHRISTMAS pins from other years – $2 TUBACHRISTMAS CD’s – $15 & $20
