Steel Drum

One of the high school bands in the United States with a performing steel drum group is the McAllen High School “Pan O’ Steel” under the direction of Mr. Rosa. The steel drums of Trinidad are one of the most talked about acoustic instruments of the 20th century. Even more amazing is that these musical instruments are made from 55 gallon oil barrels. Steel drums are made by beating out small areas on the top and tuning them to a specific pitch. Most expect to hear a percussive or drum sound, but instead they hear an amazing melodic sound unlike any they have heard before.
This group has performed for practically thousands of spectators at Winter Texan parks, clubs and civic organization meetings and festivals. With a repertoire of calypso, jazz, rock, folk, country and even some classical music, they definitely entertain every person in the audience.
